1,2-Dimethylhydrazine is a potent carcinogen that acts as a DNA alkylating agent. It is used to induce colon tumors in experimental animals. It was also used in preparation of spiroisoquinolinedione aldose reductase inhibitors.

由苯甲酰氯与硫酸肼反应生成对称二苯甲酰肼,再与硫酸二甲酯反应得到对称二苯甲酰二甲肼,最后将其与盐酸一起回流2小时,进行水蒸气蒸馏,将剩余物减压蒸发至干,结晶出对称二甲肼盐酸盐。 用于有机合成。
